Capacity Building Training for Community Midwifery Tutors

The Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP), in collaboration with the Integrated Reproductive, Maternal, Child Health (IRMNCH) & Nutrition Program Punjab and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Punjab initiated a three-week capacity building training for the Community Midwifery Teachers at the College of Nursing, Nishtar, Multan from 24th August to 11th September, 2015. The core participants were the midwifery teachers from different districts of the Punjab.

The integrated approach applied to enhance capacity of midwifery teachers on teaching learning methods and World Health Organization (WHO) defined midwifery educator’s competencies and overall concepts of perinatal health including family planning. In addition training mandate the need assessment of midwifery teachers on assessment of knowledge, skills and teaching. Participants enhanced their learning with practical application of teaching learning principles in the light of teaching learning theories and philosophy. Participants also gained knowledge in developing master plan, yearly plan and lesson plans. Moreover, participants were also involved in reflective practice throughout the training. This comprehensive training included practice of midwifery theory and skills in the classroom and in different clinical settings. Moreover, a short module on safe motherhood and community partnership was also introduced with a discussion on community partnership.
